These are a few samples of the most recent video worked I’ve done. I often do passion projects where I chose to do free work to help student or grassroots organizations amplify their voice.

University of Arizona Wrestling Club fundraiser video , 2019-2020

The UA Wrestling Club is not a fully funded program by the university so the team collectively raises money to compete. Cost include tournament fees, gas, food, airfare, and car rentals. A lot of the funding comes from donations from the wrestling community, local businesses, and the coach himself, Vince Majalca.

Voices of Indigenous Concerns in Education (VOICE), 2019

This short video is to highlight an uncomfortable interaction between the University of Arizona (UA) President, Dr. Robert Robbins, and a group of Native American students on UA campus. Robbins unknowingly began to use micro-aggressions in attempt to connect with the all Native class, which left the class speechless. In an opportunity to heal, spread awareness, and move forward, this video was made to let others know we, Indigenous People, are still here.

About

Alejandro Higuera is a photographer and videographer based out of Flagstaff, Arizona. He is a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and currently works closely with the Indigenous populations of across Arizona.

“My mission within film/photo is simple, to bring respect and positive representation to Indigenous people. For too long we have been the antagonist, the bad-the ugly, the undesirables, the ones who stood in the way of prosperity, which completely dehumanized us. My work aims to highlight Indigenous people in genuine moments. The moments that echo, we are still here” .
